Why do tenants prefer ParkMyTinyHouse hosts?

1. They are well-educated.
We spend a great deal of time, and have created a comprehensive suite of resources, to make sure our hosts know everything they could want to know BEFORE agreeing to host. We explain council rules, access requirements, site preparation, composting toilets, grey water and a hundred other things you probably hadn’t thought of. WHY?
We see time and time again that land owners offering their sites elsewhere without the full picture, end up having a myriad of issues. Many get cold feet at the last minute when Uncle Bob gets in their ear about council. Many have unrealistic expectations of how much rent they can earn, which takes advantage of a tenant who doesn’t know any better. When the host already knows pretty much everything about Tiny Houses, it means you as the tenant don’t need to spend hours and days explaining every single thing, only for the host to then say “oh sorry that won’t work for me”.
2. It demonstrates they are genuine and honest.
Unfortunately, some land owners prey on vulnerable people in free forums, particularly single women and those experiencing housing stress. Desperate people make poor choices, and unfortunately it’s always the tenant who’s the one disadvantaged- they are the ones stressed out by the sudden eviction and no fall-back option, and they are the ones wearing the cost of packing up their Tiny Home, finding a new location, paying thousands in transport costs and having to set up all over again elsewhere. Without a third party for accountability and support, you’re really navigating the unknown. And there’s a lot to Tiny House living that you can’t find anywhere without having the lived experience- which we do.
3. They know the parking spot will actually work.
Do you know what to look for when considering a potential parking spot? Very few people do, when they’re doing it for the first time. We’ve heard multiple stories of tow trucks having to leave Tiny Houses on the roadside because they only discovered on delivery day that the parking spot wasn’t accessible by truck! Tiny House delivery day should be one of the happiest days of your life, not the one where you’re booking an airbnb at 10pm when you realise you have nowhere to sleep.
We do ALL the checks and balances so you don’t have to. Access, neighbours and council are just a small part of the assessment we undertake for every single host who applies to partner with us. We’ve done close to 1,000 of these site assessments over the past 3.5 years, and we know all the red flags to look for. Do you?
4. Accountability and support.
Very few people realise that renting land privately from someone else to live on in a Tiny House of your own, IS NOT SUBJECT to the Residential Tenancies Act. By renting a site on a “handshake agreement” through other avenues, you’re at the mercy of the land owner. If they do you dirty, you’re on your own.
On the flip side, when you rent a parking space through ParkMyTinyHouse, we have your back. You are provided with our legally-binding Lease Agreement, which protects both you and your hosts against miscommunication, and failed obligations. In the extremely unlikely event your host starts making things difficult for you- we can advocate on your behalf, and in the absolute worst case scenario can prioritise finding you an alternate site. It should be noted though, that due to all our processes and procedures, we have never had a case in 3.5 years of either a tenant or host breaking their lease early for any of the above reasons.
So. Can you find a parking spot for your Tiny House elsewhere? Of course.
But is there anywhere as safe as ParkMyTinyHouse? Absolutely not.
