Three reasons to host a Tiny House (that have nothing to do with money)

While many of our hosts tell us they’re working with us primarily for the extra income, we know this isn’t true for everyone. Here are 3 of the other reasons our hosts love our tenants:

1) AN EXTRA SET OF HANDS

Larger properties can be a lot of work to maintain, which can be challenging to keep up with even if you don’t work full time.

There are so many land owners with extra space, that need just a bit of a helping hand to keep on top of things.

Did you know you can invite someone to bring their Tiny House and live down the back corner of your yard in exchange for a few hours of labour each week?

Gardening and mowing are pretty common parts of our Lease Agreement.

2) AN EXTRA PAIR OF EYES

Many of our hosts are women on larger properties by themselves. Having someone else around “just in case” can be wonderful for your peace of mind. If something goes wrong, or if you don’t actually live there yourself, our tenants can be a reassuring constant presence, making sure someone notices if something’s not quite right, and you know there’s someone you can call on who’s only seconds away.

3) GIVE YOUR NEIGHBOURS A BREAK

If you travel a lot, or split your time between two places, having an inbuilt caretaker to water your garden and take care of your pets is PRICELESS. No more relying on your neighbours, or feeling like you’re at the mercy of available friends or family!

Most of our tenants are open to these kind of arrangements- which we call a “work in lieu” of rent agreement.

IMPORTANT NOTE

It’s easy to be taken advantage of as a property owner when you’re offering this kind of arrangement.

This is why we would NEVER recommend even considering this arrangement without TWO crucial things:

1. Fully screening your tenant- ID, credit, police and tenancy checks are the bare minimum.

2. A written, legally binding Lease Agreement that covers you for all contingencies (including if your tenant puts their back out) so it’s ALWAYS reciprocal (and enforceable).

We’ve been working in this space for over 4 years and have now connected almost 1,000 property owners with wonderful tenants.

We know what to look out for when offering this kind of setup, but more importantly we know how to protect you from being taken advantage of. As a result, we have not had a single reported issue with any of our tenants who are on "work in lieu" arrangements.

To connect with any of the 238 tenants currently on our books, list with us now.

**On January 1 our host pricing structure is changing, from our current one-off flat rate of $295, to a tiered rate based on the offered rent price (capped at $595).

Lock in our current pricing and we'll start advertising your listing and sending you tenants right away!
